As can be read in Watch out and punish, by Michel Foucault, Damiens, condemned on March 2, 1757 at the main door of the Church of Paris, was gripped, burned and dismembered. In those times, public tortures have two intentions; a, punish the offender or to any person who defied the laws of the time; the other, teach the peopleto the attending public, what happens, or what can happen to them, when they transgress, when they do what should not be done.
With the passing of the years, and the birth of the prison, when a crime is proven, it is punished with confinement, with the loss of freedom, it is paid with the confinement of the body for the duration of the sentence. And today’s public squares are the mass media, social networks, television, where the people demonstrate and can follow the steps of the trial and sentence, and, as in the crime of Lucio Dupuy and Fernando Báez Sosasee the bodies, faces, expressions and words of those who are on trial for the murders.
The sentences are celebrated, but By limiting the freedom of the culprits, the damage caused to the victims is not paidloved ones and society. No one brings Lucio, Fernando, or so many women and men who were and are murdered back to life. Neither reinstate an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, soon the world will be full of blind and toothless people. And less killing who kills, because there will only be a region of murderers.
Yesterday’s justice, like today’s, in the strictest sense, has the same spirit, the same goal, even though the forms are different: exemplary punishments for the guiltyand put society on notice about the laws, what is allowed and what is prohibited, what is wrong and what is bad for good living in community.

In the media cases of Lucio and Fernando (there are many more, invisible) everything that is wrong is condensed in this society: machismo and racism, sexual abuse, physical abuse, the discovery of childhood and adolescence, adults who do not protect and the naturalization of so much violence. That is why people express themselves, think, shout: “punishment”, “prison”, “life sentence”. There is no more patience, it hurts too much to live like this, to be contemporary with so many lives interrupted by hatred and barbarism.
The outburst of peace, the daily robberies, the easy trigger, the perverse clock that counts femicides, the damn “cases” counter, the paranoia at night, the disappearances, panic in the streets, leaks, can no longer be supported. and entrances, alarms, electric fences, pepper spray, sentry boxes, closed neighborhoods, and justice by own hands. In the photos and videos of Lucio and Fernando there was a beautiful future, a life ahead; in their murders, the cruelest truth, the horror that devours everything and that we don’t want anymore, anymore.
