When will The CW Netflix shows leave?

like the ones on CW Beauty and the Beast set to leave Netflix on September 19, it seems prudent to take stock of the CW’s remaining series on Netflix and estimate when they will be removed. Here’s a breakdown of when we expect all of The CW’s shows to come out on Netflix US.

Netflix and The CW first reached a production deal in 2011 which meant that each new show aired during the TV season would see its episodes added to Netflix shortly after the season finale aired. This provided Netflix with a lot of popular content, but the CW also benefited. Over the life of this deal, many CW series gained new notoriety and saw viewership spikes the following television season. riverdale It is one of the series that benefited the most from this “Netflix pothole”.

The agreement was renewed again in 2016.

In 2019, The CW and Netflix chose not to renew the production agreement. WarnerMedia and ViacomCBS (co-owners of The CW) planned to book their new series for use on their new streaming services: Paramount+ or HBO Max. Despite this, ViacomCBS gave up its opportunity to air its CBS-produced CW series, instead licensing HBO Max along with WarnerMedia-produced shows. The official word was that “it made sense to keep them in one place,” but in reality Bob Bakish’s ViacomCBS just couldn’t say “no” to a payday. This new setup started with the Fall 2019 series slate, so nancy drew and Kung Fu be on HBO Max instead of Netflix.

What about the series still on Netflix from the previous deal?

The terms of the license required each show to remain exclusively on Netflix for five years after Netflix got the final season.

As a result, there are still a plethora of CW series streaming on Netflix waiting for the clock to count down. In some cases, the series continues to be renewed for new seasons every year, and thus the 5-year countdown hasn’t even started yet!

Let’s take the guesswork out and share the list along with the estimated removal date. Please note that this is still speculation and removal dates are subject to contracts and change. This list only applies to the United States of America and other regions will vary.

gilmore girls it is a mystery and an outlier. It doesn’t follow the same contract pattern as the other series because it has been airing for 6 years as of October 1. In 2016, Netflix released a limited series revival: Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Warner Brothers produced and distributed this, which means the day should come when Netflix says goodbye to both the original series and its own Netflix Original revival. This November marks 5 years since the revival premiered and I would not be shocked if the revival comes out at that time. I wouldn’t be surprised if the entire franchise leaves in the fall of 2022. Our sources now tell us that the original series will be out on July 1, 2026 and the revival series will be out on November 25, 2026 after a 10-year license.
