As soon as the year has started, lovers of astronomy already have the chance to enjoy one of the most spectacular and colorful astral phenomena to offer 2023.
It is about the quadrantidsa rain of stars that are produced, each month from Januarywhen the Land a region that crosses its orbit in which there is a dense cloud of dust formed by the remains of the Asteroid 2003 EH.
While, the passage of our planet through it causes the ice, dust and rock particles come into contact with the earth’s atmosphere at about 41 kilometers per secondcausing flashes that cross the night sky fleetingly known, precisely, as Quadrantids, which has its origin in the Cuadrans Muralisa constellation discovered in 1795 by astronomer Joseph Lalande which is no longer recognized by the world scientific community.
As explained by NASA, in the specific case of the Argentinathe moment of increased activity will take place between tonight, Tuesday January 3, and the early hours of tomorrow, Wednesday the 4th, when between 40 and 60 meteors per hour can be observed.
If we add to this that the new Moon that is accompanying the first nights of the year, everything indicates that it will be a One of the most spectacular meteor showers of the year.
“Although he radiant of the quadrants -the region of the night sky where most meteors seem to originate-, is located in the constellation of boyeroheading north, to enjoy this wonderful show of stars it is not necessary to focus the view on either that constellation or its surroundings”, they explained from the POT.
“The meteors can appear from anywhere in the night sky and it is better to have one wide field of view of the dome sky blue to be able to see as many more as possible,” the statement added.
For their part, according to the specialists, the best and safest way to to enjoy of the Quadrantids, as of any other meteor shower, is to make it from a place as far away as possible from the lights of urban centers, which allows you to look upside down without straining your neck.
Once the eyes get used to the dark, lovers of this kind of astral phenomena can begin to observe, without the need for any telescope or special glasses, more stars in the night sky and fully enjoy the fleeting passage through the sky of some square.
