According to the official, most of the indicators that measure the performance of the labor market in the country are improving. For example, the occupancy rate The national rate advanced two percentage points and stood at 57.4 percent per year in month 11 of 2022, while the general participation rate advanced to 63.4 percent, that is, 1.2 points above the record for the last year.

Until last November, close to 1.22 million people entered the statistics of the country’s employed population, which reached 22.5 million, 5.7 percent more than that recorded in the last year ending in November.

In the 13 cities and metropolitan areas, the total number of unemployed was 1.1 million, which represented a decrease of 21.7 percent in that period.

Despite these advances, the official showed that there are still more than 14.3 million people in the country outside the labor force.

The figures for this market in Colombia, one month after the end of the year, are in line with the dynamics that the economy has been exhibiting, which is expected to grow around 8.8 percent throughout 2022.

The manufacturing industries were the ones that contributed the most to raising the employed population with 422,000 people, which meant a contribution of two percentage points, specified the director of the statistical entity.

They were followed by artistic activities, entertainment, recreation and others, with 349,000 or 1.6 percentage points of contribution to the total; trade and vehicle repair, with 179,000 more employed people, and accommodation and food services, which added some 142,000 employed individuals in the same period.

For those months, among the branches of economic activity that showed the most employed personnel were trade and vehicle repair, with 4.1 million people; followed by agriculture and livestock, more than 3.2 million; public administration (2.8 million) and manufacturing industries (2.4 million).

Although the improvement in employment in the country has been important for both men and women, where the gap has closed, this difference remains high, said the director of the Danish.

Thus, the number of employed men exceeded 13.2 million, with an improvement of 3.3 percentage points, compared to that population that had some type of occupation last year.

And although the growth of employed women up to that same month is much higher than that of men, 9.4 percentage points in that same period, that population is smaller, only about 9.3 million, according to the official entity.

“This increase in female employment was three times that of men,” said Urdinola, specifying that “the gender labor gap continues to close.”

According to the statistical entity, the November figures also show some improvement in the youth unemployment rate (people between 15 and 28 years old), which in the moving quarter September-November 2022 fell 2.4 percentage points compared to to the previous year and modified to be at 17.1 percent. According to the official, the cities in which informality is overflowing are Valledupar, Riohacha and Sincelejo, where this indicator is more than 10 percentage points above the national average, while Bogota, Tunja and Manizales, more than 19 points below that same average for the country.
