The increase in cases of pharyngitis is worrying

The Ministry of Health of the Nation updated the latest news on the increase in cases related to the action of the Streptococcus pyogenesa Gram-positive bacterium that is the usual bacterial culprit associated with acute pharyngitis and skin infections known as impetigo, cellulitis and scarlet fever.

Typically, the infections they cause are levels. However, on some occasions, can lead to serious illness which can lead to life-threatening conditions. In fact, in the world they are responsible for around 500,000 deaths per year.

According to official epidemiological data, so far this year the National Health Surveillance System has received records of 118 cases of infections by Streptococcus pyogenes in all the country. Of these, 16 people were deceased. The provinces with the highest number of confirmed cases are Buenos Aires (35), Santa Fe (20) and Chubut (10).

In a communication issued yesterday by the ministry, the increase in cases was reported. And this is significant, since –until now– the largest number of situations had been registered in 2022, with 75 patients. The figures for this semester represent a 281% increase in cases, compared to the same period in 2019.

The Transmission of this bacterium occurs by close contact with a resultthrough coughing, sneezing, or contact with an open wound.
