Previously installed on Apple TV+, the adaptation of the Latino comic series by the black cat He is reportedly looking for a jump to Netflix.

In the late summer of 2019, it was first reported by the hollywood reporter that director Roberto Rodriguez (Desperado, the city of sin) and actor Diego Boneta (Dying in a gunfight, Terminator: Dark Fate) were teaming up with MGM Television develop a series based on the Ricardo Dominguez comic book the black catalias, the black cat that would be heading to Apple TV+ as part of its growing lineup of genre streaming projects. However, the superhero show has reportedly left Apple.

A recent article from Deadline which focuses on a lot of upcoming projects from Wednesday producer andres mittmanderived from an overall agreement with MGM Television, briefly mentions the black cat has jumped onto Netflix with Mittman on board via 1.21. It is also said to continue with Wednesday as announced for a season two pick up not too long ago.

El Gato Negro centers on the intergenerational exploits of two crime-fighting heroes in South Texas. The first is a young man who takes on the role of a legendary local hero to avenge the death of his best friend, while the other is his grandfather, a Mexican wrestler who dedicated himself to fighting crime decades before.

The writer had worked on the CW series. supergirl set in the Arrowverse and the Netflix animated series Masters of the Universe: Revelation which comes from Kevin Smith. Though a showrunner has yet to be formally announced, and when we might expect the show to go in front of the cameras, as we’d expect Rodriguez to potentially want to direct episodes.

This report of the show jumping to us stands out to us given Rodriguez’s high profile and we’ve reached out to Netflix for official comment on whether or not the series actually moved from Apple to Netflix. They did not provide any comment saying they had nothing to confirm at this time..

On the other hand, a profile like the one written by Deadline usually comes straight from the horse’s mouth or from the PR team that sends out a rewritten release that is used to word the announcement about Mittman’s deal at MGM. While it could have been a slip, we are under the impression that the information is correct until Netflix/Apple says otherwise.

Given Rodriguez’s growing relationship with Netflix, it’s worth noting that this move wouldn’t be all that surprising.

The filmmaker is no stranger to working with Netflix the way the filmmaker did. We can be heroes for the streamer and the next reboot Spy Kids: Armageddon Starring Zachary Levi and Gina Rodriguez.
