A set of tarpon fished for human consumption register the highest levels of contamination with pesticides worldwide. The viscera and muscles of the fish that inhabit the lower reaches of the Salado River, in Santa Fe, yielded record concentrations of nine insecticides, herbicides and fungicides applied to transgenic soybean, corn and cotton crops.
The information comes from a study by Conicet and the Universidad Nacional del Litoral published in the journal Science of the Total Environment.
