Adam Sandler and the Safdie Brothers team up in a new feature film coming exclusively to Netflix worldwide. Here’s the lowdown on what we know so far about the project.
First announced in October 2022, the Safdie Brothers (consisting of Benny and Josh Safdie) will write, produce and direct a new film. bound exclusively for Netflix.
The trio worked together on uncut gems for A24, released in 2020 to rave reviews. The project still resides on Netflix outside of the United States as a Netflix Original title, but in the United States, the movie sadly left the service last May.
Along with their work on this new Adam Sandler Netflix project, the Safdie Brothers are also working on a new comedy series via A24 Television which is scheduled to launch on Showtime, The course. Both act as executive producers. The filming of the series took place throughout 2022but no release date has been set.
What is the new Safdie Brothers Netflix movie about?
Details about what exactly the new movie is about are still extremely scarce.
When the project was first announced, it was only stated to be “in the world of sports”, while it has since been refined to “Set in the world of high-end sports card collecting”.
We’ve heard that the movie is specifically about baseball cards in New York City during the 1990s.
Who will star in the new Safdie Brothers Netflix movie?

Adam Sandler was the first to be announced for the project, but it’s not yet clear who he’ll play in the title.
Of course, Sandler calls Netflix his home exclusively now, with a host of upcoming projects in the works and most of his output from the past decade available exclusively on the service.
In November 2022 at the Gotham Awards, Variety’s Marc Malkin asked Adam Sandler about the upcoming project, first asking how they top uncut gemsto which he replied:
“I don’t know, we’ll see what happens. I know I’m going to look different than I did. I know that they [Safdie Brothers] send me photos of a look that I am going to have and I cannot say that I am going to look so handsome”.

we have heard that too Benicio, the bull is or at one point was eyed for a role in the upcoming film. Best known for movies like Hitman and The usual suspectsThe veteran will also appear in the Netflix original movie, Reptile scheduled for release in 2023.
Netflix did not respond to a request for comment on Benicio del Toro’s possible casting for the project.
When will production of the film begin?
in a Vanity Fair InterviewSandler originally stated that the film was “supposed to start in late winter.”
When asked if he expected the filming schedule and time on set to be intense, Sandler said:
“Yeah, because of how much these guys care. And how much I do not want to disappoint them. And I see how hard they work, and just like when I’m working on my comedies with my friends, it means a lot to us. Every joke means a lot. The Safdie boys, every word means a lot to them, every frame of the movie means a lot. So I don’t want to walk through anything. I worry about that, and I have a lot of respect for those guys.”
Subsequent production listings, including from productionlist.comstates that filming for the project will begin from April 3, 2023. Filming will take place in Los Angeles, California.
The movie is scheduled to shoot throughout 2023 and wraps up sometime in the late second quarter of 2023.
