The first theatrical releases of 2023 arrived on Netflix this month. More importantly, February marked the debut of two major original series: the teen social drama Class and the film industry documentary series the Romantics. A curmudgeonly guy named James wakes up on a bus in a small town thinking he is Sundaram, a man who disappeared from the town years ago. An important facet of the story is how James, who is a Malayalam speaker, can suddenly speak fluent Tamil when he believes that he is Sundaram. While the Hindi and Telugu dubbed versions are available in the film’s audio menu, they dub all dialogue into a single language, upsetting a critical mechanism by which the story unfolds.
