Impeachment of the Supreme Court: the debate began with the analysis of 14 projects

The Commission of Political trial, chaired by deputy Carolina Gaillard (FdT), began with the analysis of 14 projects requesting Impeachment of the members of the highest court of justice.

Within the framework of the opening of the period of extraordinary sessions convened by the President of the Nation, Alberto Fernández, the Political Judgment Commission started the debate on the bills submitted by legislators and legislators from different parliamentary blocs, as well as civil society organizations, against the members of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation.

In this regard, the Head of the Commission, Carolina Gaillard (FdT), explained that “the political trial is not a criminal trial.” “It is a cause to remove from office those officials who did not perform well in the function in which they have been designated”, he pointed out.

In an informative meeting, the deputy also announced that in the development of the following meetings the analysis of the different files will be carried out, for which the authors of the projects will be received; as well as, the admissibility report will be analyzed in order to assess whether or not there is support to move forward and open the summary stage.
It is worth mentioning that Carlos Rosenkrantz, Ricardo Lorenzetti, Horacio Rosatti and Juan Carlos Maqueda They are the current ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation.

From the Civic Coalition, the first vice president of the Commission, deputy Juan Manuel López, probably invite lawyers and representatives of civil society to analyze the admissibility reports, while stating: “We want separation of powers and we are going to defend the independence of the Judiciary.”

Then, the president of the Frente de Todos bloc, Germán Martínez, assured that “we are facing a situation of extreme institutional gravity”, and in that sense he expected: “We have to give all the political debates based on the different views.”

In turn, from Buenos Aires Identity, the deputy Alejandro Rodríguez, expressed his position against the impeachment and questioned “the political attack regarding the expansion of the members of the Supreme Court.”

From the PTS – Left and Workers’ Front – Unity, the deputy Myriam Bregman asserted that “there are great reasons to question this Court,” although he referred to the dilemma of knowing “When the request for impeachment is an attack on the institutions or when it is an act of Justice.”

For his part, the deputy of the Frente de Todos Leopoldo Moreau clarified that it is not “a trial of the Court, but of its 4 members.”

Later, the deputy Ana Carrizo (Radical Evolution) declared herself “in favor of political trials”, but remarked: “There must be a partisan consensus”.

In another sense, the deputy Sabrina Ajmechet (Pro) stated: “They are attacking the National Constitution, the Justice and the division of powers”, while her counterpart Fabio Quetglas (UCR) referred to the need to “improve the quality of Justice”, although he thought: “This is not the appropriate means to improve it”.
