He Pope Francisco appointed this Saturday the Archbishop of La Plata Victor Manuel “Tucho” Fernandez as prefect of the Vatican’s Department for the Doctrine of the Faith. It is one of the main ministries of the Vatican, the person in charge of trials for pedophilia among other sensitive issues.
“Tucho” Fernández, 60, had been in his position since 2018, when he replaced the controversial Monsignor Héctor Aguer. I would take over in September his ministry in the Holy See.

The Archbishop of the city of La Plata, Monsignor Victor Manuel Fernandez, 60 years old and a native of Córdoba, has been appointed as the new Prefect. With an outstanding academic career, Fernández has held various important positions in the Catholic Church.
He has been dean of the Faculty of Theology of Buenos AiresPresident of the Argentine Society of Theology and rector of the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina (UCA). Likewise, he currently leads the Faith and Culture Commission of the Argentine Episcopate.
