Elon Musk said the premium version of Twitter, called Blue, will cost $8 per month and make a check mark for user accounts that pay subscription.
Musk, who acquired the social network for $44 billion last week, said that these Blue users also get priority in Twitter replies, mentions and searchesand half as many ads.
Musk called Twitter Inc.’s current verification system, which applies a verification mark to users and brands that may be at risk of being impersonated, a “gentlemen and peasants” system. “Power to the people!” he tweeted, asking people to pay US$8 a month.
Previous press reports have indicated that those who don’t pay will lose their checkmarks, but Musk did not comment on that.
