The complaint of sexual abuse that weighs on oil workers and the reaction of the union’s general secretary of workers, Marcelo Rucci, ignited the malaise in Neuquén politics and especially in the party to which the union leader belongs, the MPN, which governs the province . The representative is accused of a lack of empathy and solidarity in the face of the serious event.
Specifically, once the employees are complicated by the accusation that came to light last week, with a company that quickly decided to fire them. An event that led to Rucci’s complaint: “They should have been suspended, not fired. They acted outside the law. He became the judge. They put eleven people in, it is not defined, there is no sentence or anything that proves that it really was all of them and that they are all to blame. The names of many who surely had nothing to do with it are dirty ”, he explained.
Likewise, he recognized that there are certain practices that have been naturalized as abuse over time: “A blanket, one of those things, in the activity… it was normal for a long time, but already there sexually as the complaint is raised is something else” .
Faced with these words, which generated the rejection of various political actors in the district, the Ministry of Women and Diversity of Neuquén appeared, a body that through Nicolás Cerdá, director of Masculinities, invited the union to work to modify behaviors in fabric of judgement. “The initiation rites are historical and with practices that have constantly become naturalized. We opened the door for the possibility of framing it and working clearly”.
And the nucleus of the MPN also felt the impact since Rucci, the main figure of the Blue and White group of the MPN, sealed an electoral agreement in 2022 with the Blue sector of the current governor of the province, Omar Gutiérrez, who is nominating the current lieutenant governor of Neuquén, Marcos Koopman, to lead the province starting this year. Provincial sources report significant discomfort and alert about possible electoral consequences three months before the elections.
