Covid-19 cases in Argentina almost quadrupled in a week

The Ministry of Health reported 12,609 infections in the last week in Argentina, which represents 279% more cases than last Sunday (3,323). This is the first time in more than three months that Argentina exceeds 10,000 weekly cases, since the Ministry of Health reported 11,636 cases on September 4.

“The cases of Covid-19 have been increasing for four weeks, and from the week before this they did so 3.8 times,” acknowledged the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti.. “Our recommendation in this context is to reinforce vaccination and usual care.”

On November 27, the health portfolio had reported 3,323 new coronavirus infections, which already implied a growth of more than 120 percent compared to two weeks before that date.

With the latest data, the number of positive cases of Covid amounted to 9,739,856 since the start of the pandemicin March 2020, while, with nine deaths reported this Sunday, the total number of people who died from the disease amounted to 130,034.

“For now, the increase in cases has not turned into a significant increase in hospitalizations or deaths,” Vizzotti added on Facebook. “This is because the protection provided by vaccines is very strong.”

“The best way to maintain this protection is with a booster dose: that is why what has been observed in recent weeks is so important, with the increase in the application of boosters in vaccinations throughout the country,” he added.

Covid self-test sales to increase 200% in November

The Ministry of Health reported that the number of internal coronavirus patients in intensive care and adult service beds remains at 247 and all pathologies were found to be 41 percent occupied in public and private establishments throughout the country.

Days ago, Vizzotti had announced about the increase in the number of infections and urged the population to apply vaccine boosters, since he said that “the virus cannot be eliminated, nor can lifelong immunity be generated.”

The national official explained that the increase is expected” and I said: “We are going to have some seasonal peaks and even out of season.” “The virus cannot be eliminated: if it infects us, it does not give us immunity for life and the vaccine does not prevent 100% of the cases and neither gives immunity for life,” they stressed.

Vizzotti ratified that the coronavirus “is going to add to the seasonal viruses from now on every winter”, although he clarified that “in no way is it going to generate tension in the health system that will continue and the concern of not being able to respond.”
