Christian Pulisic’s first World Cup goal gives USA the lead over Iran, takes a big hit

Christian Pulisic gave the United States the opening goal in their game against Iran on Tuesday night.

Pulisic streaked through midfield and found Sergino Dest’s header to put the ball into the back of the net past Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand. It was Pulisic’s first World Cup goal of his soccer career and it came at a price.

Pulisic was sidelined for some time after colliding with Beiranvand in goal, and was carried off the field so the game could continue. After shaking off the hard collision, he returned to the field and was able to finish the first half without being substituted.

It was enough to give the US a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Americans had nine shots in total in the first half against Iran and three were on target. Tim Weah came close to scoring the USA’s second goal of the game, but was called for offside.

Both the US and Iran need to win to move forward. to the next stage. Iran could still go in with a draw, but need help in the Wales-England game.
