Boeing will cut nearly 2,000 jobs

Boeing Co. plans to cut about 2,000 jobs in its finance and human resources areasas part of an initiative to reduce its corporate structure while bolstering the manufacturing workforce.

The reductions will be carried out throughout the company and be achieved through dismissals and casualties, Boeing said in an emailed statement. Potentially affected workers have not yet been notified.

The Seattle Times, which first reported on the planned cuts, said that about 1,500 of the affected positions will come from finance staff of Boeing, and of the human resources division will come up to 400 more. The American planemaker intends to outsource some of that work to Tata Consulting Services in India.

The Corporate cuts come amid a sweeping wave of hiring, as Boeing works to speed up production and resolve issues that have delayed deliveries of its 737 Max and 787 Dreamliner jets. He manufacturer plans to hire 10,000 employees this yearparticularly engineers and factory workers, after increasing its workforce by 15,000 last year.

Last week, Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun told Bloomberg TV that the recruiting drive has included examples from Amazon and Microsoft, which have also recently announced layoffs. As of December 31, Boeing had 156,000 employees.
