Avian flu: detection of a new case in the province of Buenos Aires

He National Agrifood Health and Quality Service (Senasa) contribution a new positive case of avian influenza (AI) H5 in backyard birds in the province of Buenos Aires. In this way, there are a total of 26 detections of the disease in total so far throughout the country.

The sanitarian informed that of the 9 samples analyzed this Wednesday by the Senasa National Laboratory,8 had a negative diagnosis and 1 positive result to AI H5 in backyard birds of an establishment located in the Buenos Aires town of Rauch.

After confirming the cases, agents of the Regional Center Buenos Aires South of Senasathey will implement the corresponding sanitary actions in the affected properties.

In this way, of the 186 notifications analyzed by the Senasa Laboratory, to date, add 26 confirmed cases in wild birds (3), backyard (22) and commercial sector (1) distributed as follows: 13 in Córdoba, 5 in Buenos Aires, 2 in Río Negro, 2 in Santa Fe, 1 in Jujuy, 1 in Neuquén , 1 in San Luis and 1 in Salta.

This Tuesday, after confirming the first positive case of avian complaint in poultry from Río Negro, the country temporarily lost its disease-free status and suspended the export of these products, in compliance with international standards.

The Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Nation, Juan José Bahillo, the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti; and the president of Senasa, Diana Guillén held a virtual meeting with provincial health and production authorities, to coordinate work and prevention actions against avian influenza, after a positive case was detected in a broiler chicken farm in the province of Río Black.

Bahillo highlighted the presence of the health and production authorities of the provinces “because we need to work in an articulated and coordinated manner”, and explained that “this meeting had been scheduled before confirming this case in Río Negro, when it was still using another health status, unfortunately today we have to take commercial measures to respect the protocols”

In another order, the Secretary communicated calmness by assuring that “I want to tell consumers that avian influenza is not transmitted by eating poultry meat, this is very important to highlight”, and concluded that “we are going to continue with the coordination actions to continue with the work of surveillance and control”.

Meanwhile, Vizzotti expressed that “it is very important andbe attentive and in places or provinces where more cases are detected, be permanently in contact with the Ministry of Health and Senasa”.
