Attempted coup in Brazil: a former ambassador assured that there was “collusion”, “winks” and “little police”

Bolsonaro fanatics invaded the headquarters of the three branches of government in Brasilia, where they had been camping for more than two months, demanding a coup that would prevent the presidential withdrawal. the failed Coup attempt last Sunday led to at least 1,500 detainees and the opening of countless indictments against protesters, members of the security forces and officials.

Given the serious situation in the neighboring country, Reprofile consulted the former Ambassador of Brazil, Spain and the Organization of American States, Juan Pablo Lolhé, who expressed that what happened “was grotesque” because “a demonstration of 2,000 people with water hoses does not stop”. And he continued: “They are fans, but there are also other components that it is good to point out. There is collusion, there is winking, pretending to be distracted, very few police and in some cases police mixed with protesters.” “There is a lot to investigate, that has to be done by justice.”

Regarding the assumptions that President Lula Da Silva knew that these events were going to happen and he let them happen, the former Ambassador expressed, “They are speculations, you have to let justice investigate”.

Chaos in Brazil: Bolsonarists took over the headquarters of the Powers to call for a coup against Lula da Silva

Before Lula’s return to the Presidency and regarding the third term of the Brazilian PT leader, Lolhé warned about the differences in the government contexts: “Lula was used to winning by wide margins and this time he won by a small difference; the conformation of Brazil is very different from the one he governed; there is a crack that did not exist before.” For this reason, now in the neighboring country there is “a difficult context for him, because Lula’s primary mission is to unite the country and pacify it. It would be necessary to see if it succeeds”.

“The riots can continue, but not in the way they were developing because there was some permissibility. a tougher confrontation if the Sera issue continues”, analyzed the diplomat. And then he added: “It will depend a lot on the political and social climate and that is to be seen because Lula just took office a week ago.”

Regarding the possibility of something similar happening in Argentina, Juan Pablo Lolhé observed the differences in the number of inhabitants, territorial, cultural and the similarities with respect to Macrismo and Bolsonarismo by the center right and the center left vision of Lulismo and Kirchnerism. “The advantage that we see here is that there is always an officialism and an opposition, which is a guarantee for democracy.. The problem is whether society benefits from it, ”she concluded.
