This type of microorganism can be harmful to health and for this reason they requested extreme care, with instructions for bathers and athletes.
They ask to avoid contact with the water of the Río de La Plata due to the presence of cyanobacteria
The provincial body said in a statement that the flowering of this type of algae is currently present in the La Balandra spa and the Municipal ParadorIn the town of berisso; and in the rock lagoons (chacabuco), San Bartolo (german) and Las Mulitas (25 of May).
The Undersecretariat implemented the Early Warning System for Cyanobacteria through the “cyanosemaphore”, which monitors 44 different points. In this sense, an alert was also issued for the Salado River (Roque Pérez) and to the dock sectors, Punta Norte, San José and Puerto Aventura de la chascomus lagoon.

This Early Warning system is updated and daily has four risk: green, yellow, orange and red, with their respective care instructions for bathers and athletes.
When the reference is “Green”, the water looks as usual and activities are not affected. is “Yellow”there are small green spots on the surface and in the case of bathing it is important to rinse with clean water immediately after.
In case the alert is “Orange”, the water looks bright green on the surface and on the sand. It is requested to avoid contact with stains and without eating food that come from the river.
In the case of color “Red”, a dark green, brownish mass is clearly observed, with the appearance of thick cream. It also indicates that food from that place is not consumed and you must wait for let the flower disappear to take a bath.
What are cyanobacteria?
Cyanobacteria are organisms that live in water and are generally has a blue-green color. Some species can be harmful to health.
The most common health effects are: vomiting, diarrhea, headache, muscle weakness, and skin allergies. The provincial organizes that in case of smelling or observing color in the water, contact should not be made. Consult the nearest health center in the case of poisoning.
