Ecuador declared the Argentine ambassador in Quito persona non grata for the ex-minister’s escape

The government of Ecuador declared “persona non grata” the Ambassador of Argentina in Quito, gabriel fuks, according to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry of that country on March 14.

“In relation to the circumstances surrounding the new contempt for decisions of the Ecuadorian justice by Mrs. María Duarte, sentenced for committing acts of corruption, the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry has concluded that mutual trust and good faith have been violated that should prevail in the relationship between States”, begins the official letter published by that country.

And it continues: “By virtue of this, the government of Ecuador has decided, protected by article nine of the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations of 1961, to declare the Argentine ambassador in Quito, Gabriel Fuks, “persona non grata.”
