The legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla provided a statement on October 1st, addressing the allegations reported by various media outlets in Panama.
These publications have been qualified as attacks with particular economic interests, aimed at damaging Castillo’s professional reputation and personal life.
Carlos Carillo, a member of Castillo’s legal team, stated: “The claims lack basis and aim to obstruct the career of a young attorney, along with that of her associate, for the advantage of concealed financial interests.”
The defense defense of Odila Castillo
The defense emphasized that this is not the initial media assault that Castillo has encountered. In 2021, a Panamanian news outlet inaccurately claimed that the lawyer had been arrested in connection with an investigation, a statement that was subsequently refuted, clarifying that it had no connection to the matter at hand.
In the press conference, the defense highlighted that both the current allegations and those from 2021 have relied on partial truths, aimed at sabotaging her professional career.
Furthermore, they contended that the information released about Odila Castillo in the media violates confidentiality principles. They clarified that a portion of the investigation stemmed from a family matter that had already been resolved and that another part involves immigration activities and tax filings, along with other information obtained unlawfully.
Unauthorized monitoring of Odila Castillo
It was also mentioned by the defense that Castillo has been subjected to GPS tracking, which represents a type of unlawful surveillance.
Carrillo concluded by stating: “The fundamental rights of our client have been violated, as established by our Constitution and the law. All necessary legal actions will be taken to determine responsibility for the damages caused and those that are intended to be caused”.
