Can you see which image was created by AI?

They told us to fear killer robots. But the artistic ones are here first.

Advances in artificial intelligence have enabled a wave of online imagers, giving way to a torrent of computer generated images and works of art with remarkably high quality.

AI generated art has prizes won in art competitions, and some content creators are actively using it and may have previously used human illustrators, elbowing out artists using more traditional methods and raising hope and angst about the future of art.

But how does AI art really compare to art created by humans?

NBC News used various AI services to create 21 images, each of which mimicked the subject of a human-created photograph, drawing or painting. When placed next to each other it can sometimes be hard to tell which is which, although there may be clues.
