Barbie, the film based on the popular Mattel Inc. doll, grossed $22.3 million in ticket sales for the first showings in cinemas, Warner Bros. updated Friday in an email.
The figure places the film ahead of other great films released recently, such as guardians of the galaxy vol. 3which raised $17.5 million in May, and Top Gun: Maverick, from last year, with $19.3 million. The latter was the highest-grossing opening of 2022 in the United States.

Barbie numbers include the Thursday night previews and Wednesday Barbie Blowout Party premiere events, where guests wearing pink received free cotton candy and other prizes. The film officially opens on Friday.
